Shared Access delivers mobile connectivity inside Grade A new build offices for leading property consultancy

7th May 2024

Shared Access, owner and operator of shared telecommunications infrastructure, has delivered in-building mobile connectivity at 1 Causeway Park, Staines-upon-Thames on behalf of Lambert Smith Hampton.

This contemporary Grade A sustainable office building was designed by Arup, a leading top ten architectural firm and offers high quality office space and amenities while meeting strict energy performance criteria across all areas.

The use of energy-efficient materials including higher quality insulation and new styles of glass, meant that internal mobile phone signals were compromised, a common issue in many modern office buildings.

Shared Access was approached by managing agents Lambert Smith Hampton to solve this problem and subsequently designed an in-building multi-operator repeater system to amplify and rebroadcast cellular mobile signals from all four networks to all parts of the building.

Installation and commission of the system was completed in just three weeks, delivering a flawless mobile signal as well as significantly improved data rates and speeds throughout 1 Causeway Park.

The project was designed, installed and fully funded upfront by Shared Access who provide ongoing monitoring, maintenance and support of the site in partnership with the four mobile network operators in return for an annual operating fee.

Sam Jackman, Chief Development Officer, Shared Access:

“Materials used in the construction of new buildings often repel mobile signals and that was the case at 1 Causeway Park. Our in-building mobile connectivity solution ensures that no matter what network you’re on, or where you are in the building, you’ll have the perfect mobile signal.”

Simon Butler, Director, Lambert Smith Hampton:

“Shared Access worked diligently with us to deliver a solution that would in no way compromise the extremely high finish of this standout Grade A office building. The whole process was straightforward and only took three weeks. We now have flawless in-building mobile connectivity on all four networks throughout the building – and a long term, expert partner to make sure we deliver a peerless tenant experience.”

Installation of Wi-Fi 6 at Berthon Marina, Lymington.

During the busy season, Berthon Marina has up to 250 boats in residence, all with multiple devices connecting to the marina’s Wi-Fi.  This was creating a heavily congested network environment and a poor end user experience. Connection speeds were grinding to a halt, with berth holders and visitors frequently being disconnected or simply unable to connect. Card payments for fuel or food and beverage became impossible to process with all the associated customer frustrations and commercial impact.

Tunnels are historically tough locations to get a phone signal. Traditional masts provide coverage outdoors to locations that can be seen – tunnels by their nature are underground, compact and often have lots of twists and turns that all stop existing outdoor signals from penetrating inside.

The Tyne Tunnel is no different. Originally opened in 1967, the seven miles of tunnels connect the town of Jarrow with North Shields and Howden. The traffic that passes through the tunnel allows vehicles both a way in and out of Newcastle. Over 40,000 vehicles travel through the Tyne Tunnel every day – that’s over 14,000,000 vehicles a year.
