NEUTROON RECEIVES FUNDING FROM SHARED ACCESS TO BOOST PRIVATE 5G AND LTE NETWORK DEPLOYMENT

Neutroon seizes an opportunity to collaborate through Shared Access’ expertise in the tower and DAS markets  

The start-up, accelerated by Evonexus in Silicon Valley, offers a NaaS platform that allows customers to deploy advanced private networks at a lower cost and with greater flexibility

Private networks are the cornerstone on which the IoT will pivot, with more than 30 billion devices forecast to be connected by 2025.

London, 12 October 2021 Neutroon, a Networks-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform that seeks to accelerate private LTE and 5G networks for industry, smart cities and rural areas, has closed a financing round of 530,000 euros. Shared Access, the wireless telecommunications infrastructure company, headed up the investment that will allow Neutroon to continue developing its product and accelerate growth.

There are currently more than 13 billion connected devices in the world and it’s estimated that by 2025 there will be 30 billion¹. With more people demanding more connectivity than ever before, the expansion of private 5G and LTE networks – which allow more localized, private and cybersecure connections – has become essential. Shared Access stands with Neutroon at the forefront of this revolution.

Over the next five years, 5G will become the connectivity standard in industrial and critical environments, partly displacing existing networks such as WiFi. This accelerated growth is based on the disruption of edge computing, 5G and the release of the radio spectrum in countries such as the US, the United Kingdom and Germany.

Shared Access will help propel Neutroon through its unique partnerships and expertise in designing, building, owning and running networks such as the state-of-the-art DAS system that Shared Access owns and operates at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Shared Access also brings capital investment options to Neutroon’s customer base, de-risking the investment process through innovative funding options. This approach is key to new technologies being implemented at scale.

What is Neutroon?

As NaaS, Neutroon allows 5G and LTE networks to be deployed to its customers in minutes, thanks to automation and a very intuitive graphical interface which significantly reduces cost and complexity. In addition, the platform pre-integrates software and hardware vendors through its API, allowing customers to access these resources without the need to invest in costly integrations and their maintenance.

Neutroon is currently consolidating its position in Europe with its first customers deploying their private networks. By 2022, the company will begin opening markets in the US and South America.

In May 2021, the company was selected to be part of Evonexus, one of the most prestigious accelerators in Silicon Valley, driven by companies such as Qualcomm and Verizon.

 

Funding round

Neutroon raised a funding round of € 530,000 to continue working towards its goal of democratizing access to 5G and LTE networks. Alongside Shared Access it had the support of 5GVentures, Ferrovial and business angels Oriol Relats and Jordi Vallejo.

Neutroon will now devote efforts to strengthening its technology and operations team and continue to develop the company’s core technology. It will also expand the portfolio of solutions it offers by developing more integrations with new suppliers.

 

Projects already developed by Neutroon

The company expects to close 2021 with a turnover of € 300,000, projects running throughout Europe, including in Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom, and a client base that includes e-distribución Redes Digitales, Ferrovial and Fujitsu.

Neutroon is heavily involved in the strategic Silvertown project in London and will manage the private 5G network used during the construction of the tunnel.

The forecast for 2025 is to increase turnover to € 25 million and serve more than a thousand private networks.

During the busy season, Berthon Marina has up to 250 boats in residence, all with multiple devices connecting to the marina’s Wi-Fi.  This was creating a heavily congested network environment and a poor end user experience. Tunnels are historically tough locations to get a phone signal. Traditional masts provide coverage outdoors to locations that can be seen – tunnels by their nature are underground, compact and often have lots of twists and turns that all stop existing outdoor signals from penetrating inside.

The Tyne Tunnel is no different. Originally opened in 1967, the seven miles of tunnels connect the town of Jarrow with North Shields and Howden. The traffic that passes through the tunnel allows vehicles both a way in and out of Newcastle. Over 40,000 vehicles travel through the Tyne Tunnel every day – that’s over 14,000,000 vehicles a year.
